Important Announcement Regarding acad.gwu.edu Services
Starting May 24, 2008, the Academic Unix system, acad.gwu.edu will no longer support the Telnet and FTP protocols. It was necessary to turn these protocols off because they no longer provide a secure means to access the system. Users of Acad will need to use SSH and SFTP when connecting to Acad. ISS provides links to SSH and SFTP clients on the Help Desk Website (http://helpdesk.gwu.edu).
If you do not have an SSH or SFTP client on your computer, the Help Desk can assist you in finding a client.
For assistance please contact the ISS Help Desk via email at ithelp@gwu.edu or phone at 202-994-5530. The ISS Help Desk is open Monday through Friday from 7am to 10pm.

Important Information for GW Faculty and Staff about Apple iPhone
The newly released Apple iPhone is a consumer-oriented device and is not designed to function securely inside an enterprise environment. Any GW Faculty or Staff considering its purchase should be aware that it will not, at least in the near term, be supported at GW for work/business use.
ISS will continue to monitor Apple and AT&T's progress with this product roll-out and will revisit supporting the iPhone as the technology matures.
We thank you for your patience as we continue to strive to provide the GW community with safe and secure technology features that meet your daily business needs.
Important Information: Microsoft Vista
Microsoft Vista should not be purchased by any administrative departments or individuals for use at GW. Vista is not currently supported for use on the GW
network or to access GW enterprise systems such as EAS, Banner, or Blackboard. Learn more here.
Important Information about IE 7.0
Individuals who utilize GW web-based applications such as Banner, EAS, and Kronos should not download Microsoft Corporation's new release of Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) onto University workstations. GW, Microsoft, and other vendors are working to enable IE7 compatibility with GW applications.
Additional information regarding compatibility will be posted as it becomes available.
Please note that for those University workstations that have Patchlink installed, IE7 will be blocked from automatic installation on workstations. For those users whose workstations do not have Patchlink installed and will not be able to benefit from this block, please call your Local Support Partner for assistance.
