Important Information about Symantec AntiVirus and Symantec Client Security software running on Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers

Who: Members of the GW Community who use Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Client Security software version 9 or earlier running on Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers.

Why: Symantec version 9 will not be supported by Symantec effective April 1. Computers with version 9 or earlier of Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Client Security software will no longer get virus updates as of 3/31/2009. Computers using Symantec version 9 or earlier will be vulnerable to any new viruses that are released after 3/31.

What to do: The Symantec software on computers running Windows XP or Windows 2000 will need to be upgraded to version 10.

If you are supported by Information Systems and Services (ISS), the upgrade to version 10 of these programs will be handled by ISS though Patchlink or by an ISS Technician.

If you are supported by a departmental or divisional IT department or LSP, please contact them to determine the upgrade process.

If you are an on-campus or off-campus student, please contact ISS Student Technology Services (STS) for assistance.

If you are a self-supporting member of the GW Community, please follow the instructions on the ISS Help Desk Symantec Software page or call the ISS Help Desk for more information.
